CIPD HR Workshop Sept 2-6th Beijing, Shanghai

Papers and report from the workshop on the human resource aspects of managing change and building organisation effectiveness held in Beijing and Shanghai in September 2002.

The UK's Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development came to China last week under the auspices of the FIST Scheme to deliver 2 2-day workshops to 60 managers in the financial services.

The two trainers recommended to the British Council have a lot of experience in the fields of Financial Services and Human Resource Management Development. Their Curriculum Vitaes can be viewed here

The theme of the workshop was Building Organisational Effectiveness - A Workshop on the Human Resource Aspects of Managing Change. The workshop aimed to introduce participants to western ideas in a selection of topics on human resource management; to provide a forum for participants to share their experience of managing change and to build on the FIST programme by developing its impact further.

Participants were from 20 different organisations in the Banking, Securities and Industry sectors, including the 3 regulators of the People's Bank of China, China Securities and China Insurance Regulatory Commission.

A complete list of participants can be found here

20 FIST trainees who originally went to the UK for the placement were also invited to join the workshop. Theiry input was invaluable not only to act as rapporteurs for their managers when required but also to highlight their potential as a resource for the organisations present.

Valuable feedback was received immediately after both workshops. The general impression from the participants was that the content was quite relevant to the current position they find themselves in. The general characteristics of the Chinese environment would need to change to allow for some of the concepts and practical models used in HR in the West to be adopted.
